Ellipticals with a 300+ lb Weight Capacity

Working out when you're overweight can be discouraging, but the important thing is to find equipment that sets you up for success and stick with it.

Exercise is stressful for the body, but for obese people, the struggle is twice as hard .Nobody likes to acknowledge this, because people who are overweight are expected to "just lose it". But working out when you are out of shape can lead to even more injury -  because bodies are already stressed and joints already strained. It can be easy to get discouraged.

The problem with budget exercise machines

Working out without hurting yourself no small feat. However, as ridiculous as it sounds, a lot of fitness machines seem to be designed for people who aren't even overweight! Unless you're willing to shell out for a gym membership, finding an elliptical that will support more than an average body weight is surprisingly hard.

When shopping for a budget-friendly elliptical, for instance, you’ll find that most cheaper models support up to a 250lb or less weight capacity. Bear in mind that the recommended user weight is anywhere from 25-50lbs less than the maximum user weight. For context, the average American male weighs just under 200lbs. So if you're already overweight, the cheapest, budget-level models of ellipticals can be unstable and unsafe for you to use.

Nevertheless, there are still quite a few ellipticals for people over 300lbs - but they will cost a little more, and some of them may have more basic features. Here are a few examples of the best ones available:

As ridiculous as it sounds, a lot of the cheaper fitness machines seem to be designed for people who aren't even overweight!

The fact that it conveniently transitions from recumbent to elliptical means that you can enjoy a wide range of features that you wouldn’t otherwise enjoy on a standard elliptical.

What's not so good about it?

The ProForm Hybrid Trainer Pro is not ideal for high-intensity workouts due to its short stride (15”) and a 13lb flywheel. If you are seeking to do some serious training, then this model isn’t the most ideal choice for you.

In conclusion...

You want an affordable machine with incredible features that will make your training both effective and fun. While a cheap model can help you save big bucks, it can prevent you from enjoying the incredible features and benefits that come with more expensive models.

Besides lacking top-rated features, most budget machines are a problem at high weight capacities, i.e. they are susceptible to wobbling, buckling, and cannot be used for intensive workouts. All in all, you shouldn’t let your inability to afford an expensive model deter you. Starting with a cheaper entry-level model is still a step towards the right direction.
